Instructor: Kevin Rader
Years TAed: Spring 2026
Course Abstract
The goal of this course is to provide skills and a foundation to help in your journey towards becoming a good teacher and an effective communicator of statistics. As a future Teaching Fellow in statistics at Harvard, you will have the potential to play a formative role in others’ introduction to and development in the field of statistics. Teaching is also an excellent way to improve your own understanding, your skills as a presenter, and your ability to communicate your research to various audiences. Good communication skills, both orally and in writing, are essential in your professional and personal life, no matter your career goals.
As incoming Teaching Fellows come from different educational and cultural backgrounds, we understand that you may consider teaching in an American classroom a challenge. We are here to supply the necessary tools and techniques to help you meet this challenge. Over the course, you will be given numerous opportunities to practice teaching and writing and to receive feedback from teaching staff and peers. Equipped with the principles and experiences from this course, we hope you will look forward to your first class as a Teaching Fellow.
